Compagnie UEUEUE

An approach at the crossroads of tradition and contemporary research

Compagnie UEUEUE represents the convergence of the careers of Anastasia Puppis, a puppeteer trained in academic theatre, and Léandre Simioni, musician and actor. Our approach is built around a methodical exploration of the ancestral art of puppetry, drawing on the heritage of European traditions while developing new contemporary dramaturgical perspectives.

A rigorous academic and artistic approach

The company's creative process rests on a rigorous methodology combining technical expertise and in-depth research. Each project is the fruit of historical investigation, primary source analysis and theoretical reflection on the place of this art in contemporary society. From puppet design to musical composition, through dramaturgical development, every step is approached with technical precision and conceptual rigour that make UEUEUE's creations works both rooted in significant cultural heritage and resonant with contemporary audiences.

Preserving and renewing a European cultural heritage

Through its work on glove puppet traditions, particularly the emblematic figure of Pulcinella, Compagnie UEUEUE works to preserve a disappearing intangible cultural heritage. The company's expertise in this field has been built over years of study with recognised masters, comparative analysis of different European traditions and rigorous documentation work. This deep knowledge allows the artists to approach the heritage dimension of their art with the gravity it deserves, while proposing interpretations that engage with current societal issues.

A contribution to contemporary thinking on puppetry arts

The company's commitment extends beyond the stage. Through its editorial work, lectures, workshops and collaborations with the academic world, UEUEUE actively participates in developing theoretical reflection on the place and role of puppetry arts in the contemporary cultural landscape. The show Oooh Teresina ! constitutes not only an artistic proposition, but also a research object that interrogates notions of freedom of expression, the relationship with authority and social representation through the lens of archetypal figures.

Institutional and academic recognition

The rigour of Anastasia and Léandre's approach and the quality of their productions have been recognised by various cultural and academic institutions, enabling them to develop collaborations with museums, universities and performing arts research centres across Europe. These partnerships nurture and validate the company's approach, while offering its work a dimension of transmission and preservation that is essential to its artistic mission.
