Judy & Punch

A feminist reinterpretation of the British classic

"Judy and Punch" is a contemporary creation that revisits the British tradition of Punch and Judy puppet shows, reversing the roles to finally give Judy the power to free herself from the cycle of violence. This 35-minute show questions our relationship with the archetypes of popular theatre and the persistence of patterns of domination.

In this version, Judy becomes the protagonist, transforming a problematic cultural legacy into a tool for emancipation. Faced with femicides that continue to blight our society, Compagnie UEUEUE offers a necessary reflection on domestic violence, operating at the level of symbols.

The staging, the result of meticulous work, skilfully combines:

Léandre's presence, in the role of the showman inherited from the English tradition, provides an essential counterpoint to the action, while Anastasia's virtuosic manipulation adds an extra dimension to the role reversal. Songs sung by the puppets, Léandre and the audience interweave in this visual and sonic concerto.

"Judy and Punch" appeals to a varied audience (from age 8), offering a profound reflection on female emancipation and the transformation of problematic cultural traditions.
